Years of prescription have led to a predictable, at times sterile, curriculum for our children, at the expense of enjoyment and creativity. School leaders have felt constrained to restrict the curriculum to what is measurable by outcome, with schools fearful of judgements made by Ofsted and others which are too often based on a narrow interpretation of data.
